Course outline
During this training, the student will develop basic practical skills and understanding of sheet metal structure fabrication and repair. Upon completion of training the student will be able to assist experienced structures technicians in the aircraft line or base maintenance environment.
Target Group
Entry level technicians, engineers, inspectors involved in maintenance and repair of aircraft metal constructions.
Prerequisites
Basic English and general technical understanding is desired.
Facilities
Course will be held in an actual maintenance facility and every student is provided with materials and tools.

– Health and safety, PPA
– Aluminium and aluminium alloys
– Aluminium alloy tempers and heat treatment
– CRES, Titanium
– AMS codification
– Fasteners, fastening systems
– Foreign Object Damage and means for avoiding it
– Hand and measuring tools
– Bulky sheet metal tools

– Repair material selection and preparation
– Damage and scratch prevention
– Marking and layout process
– Drilling and countersinking
– Dimple and countersink method
– Forming aluminium
– Joggle
– Mould making (form blocks)
– Riveting processes
– Fastening processes (permanent and temporary fasteners)
– Skin patch repair
– Frame repair
– Stringer repair
– Leading edge skin flush repair
– Part replacement
– Annealing rivets
– Protective coatings classification and applications
– Paint removal
– Sealant classification and applications
